British Memorial Plaque, RARE piece of Canadian war history - $200 in Kamloops, British Columbia for sale

This is a RARE British Memorial Plaque. These were manufactured in 1919 to 1935 and given to the next of kin of a fallen solider of Britain or a British colony/dominion who died fighting in the First World War. This plaque in particular is honouring Lieutenant Charles Hamilton Hobkirk, who served in the Canadian infantry, 2nd Division, 5th Brigade, 25th Battalion (the Nova Scotia Rifles). At age 20, Hobkirk fought in one of the most crucial battles of the first world war, the battle of Fleurs-Courcelette. His battalion, alongside the French Canadian 22nd battalion captured the village of Courcelette from the German defenders. They held it for four days from German counter attacks while cut off from supplies, including food and water. The Battle of Fleurs-Courcelette lasted from September 15th-22nd, 1916. Hobkirk was killed in action, September 17th, 1916, when his battalion was defending Courcelette village from the Germans. After Hobkirk died, the British and French won the battle on September 22nd, sucessfully securin it from the Germans. Hobkirk is buried in the Courcelette British Cemetery. The Battle of Fleurs-Courcelette was the first battle ever a military tank was used in. The Battle of Fleurs-Courcelette was a component of the Somme Offensive, one of the bloodiest military conflicts in history, with over 1 million dead. The Somme Offensive was an operation headed by the British and French to take back land from the Germans.
